Rachel pushes her practice

PUSH ME thought it time to catch up with multi talented Rachel Gadsden as she builds a different side of her project for the Unlimited Festival at the Southbank in rehearsals with a new collaborative team.

The boundaries of Rachel’s artistic practice are once again being stretched as she pushes herself into an altogether performative dimension.  Rachel’s artistic practice started in theatre, so the process is not alien to her but the push is to make the mesh of art strands work together.

It is one thing creating drawings, but another thing creating drawings to time, motion, choreography and a sound scape made specially for the piece.

I have never needed to create a timed painting schedule where seconds actually mattered before, but this time every second is critical.

It is also an extraordinary experience exploring and finding ways to integrate the corporeal processes of bodymap drawing with the visceral processes of the body in choreographic motion to an original score.

The images she later sent us are utterly captivating.  This is perhaps for Rachel the biggest push to the Unlimited Festival at South Bank and her  UGA debut performance bringing all these artistic trials and triumphs to the Purcell Room on 5th September.

Undoubtedly one of the hottest tickets to be had.

We’ll be sidling up to her collaborators in the week’s ahead, so watch this space.
